RECRUITMENT
When we interview someone, be it for full-time or part-time employment, we are looking for permanent staff, who hopefully will still be with us in five years' time. We are also happy to employ people of the appropriate calibre on a temporary or occasional basis.

TEAMWORK
Drivers Relief! has always worked as a team, with everyone looking out for each other, thus back-up and advice is always at hand through our experienced office staff. The team is made up of both full-time and part-time members and has had a long association with the armed forces. With up to 80% of our personnel coming from a service background, we aim to make everyone feel part of our team.

PERSONNEL POLICY
It has always been the policy of the partners of Drivers Relief! to act in the best interests of the drivers. Experience shows that 100% backing and support from Drivers Relief! results in 110% effort from our drivers to look after our customers.

THE ROLE OF THE DRIVER
The driver's job, in simple terms, is to get the deliveries done. But there's more to it than that. Very often the driver is the only point of contact between a company and their customer, therefore an element of customer relations and diplomacy must always be displayed.

TYPE OF WORK

The type of work can be quite varied, so there's little room for boredom. Generally HGV1 (C+E) will be long-haul or distribution work of 5–6 drops a day. HGV3 (Cat C) is usually distribution work of 8–12 deliveries a day, with the occasional long-distance run. Non-HGV (7.5 tonnes and under) is generally distribution work of 10–15 drops a day. And yes, trucks do have to be loaded and unloaded, which can be pretty hard work sometimes.

Drivers Relief! Specialist relief driving team, undertaking contract work, holiday and overload cover and emergency relief driving for most of the distribution companies and many major own-account businesses in the north Hampshire/Wiltshire area. 2/4 High Street. Ludgershall. Hants.

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR ?
We need mature, well-balanced individuals of over 25 years of age. You need not necessarily have any commercial driving experience or indeed an HGV licence, but a good geographical knowledge of the country is essential, as is the ability to cope with the occasional long and difficult day.

QUALIFICATIONS
Apart from your driving licence, which will be clean (one SP30 may be acceptable), the main qualification is your attitude to life. If pre-release courses are available, the following, in order of preference, would be an asset:

ADR
HIAB—Vehicle-mounted crane
FLT—Forklift truck
CPC—Certificate of Professional Competence

HOW TO APPLY
  • Complete and submit application form.

  • If satisfactory, we will contact you by phone to arrange an interview: this is a vital part of the selection process and should be viewed as a two-way conversation because it is as important that you are as happy with us as we are with you!

  • Subject to satisfactory interview, references and production of original licences, we look forward to welcoming you as a new member of the Drivers Relief! team.

    Training
Tachograph training is always dealt with at the beginning and is carried out on a regular individual basis.

Yes, we would be delighted to have you on attachment or for pre-release training from the Armed Forces, and yes, we pay people for the actual jobs they do, although this is not common practice! General training goes on all the time as you gradually gain experience of different jobs with different clients, mastering the most straightforward jobs before being expected to tackle the more complex and demanding.

    PAY
This will be discussed at interview, but be assured, we pay proper, realistic wages of above the normal going rate in the transport industry.
